Common questions

A little clarity for the next step.

Questions about care options and costs, getting started with us, and your portal.

Getting started

What does Acuity do?

We help families in King, Pierce and Snohomish counties understand their senior care options, prepare the right questions and plan a next step. We also work with care homes and referring professionals.

Where should our family begin?

Start with what matters in everyday life, the support needed and the practical questions you want answered. Our care considerations page offers a short list to bring to a conversation or a visit.

How is Acuity paid?

Ask us for our service and compensation disclosures in writing before you engage our services. You should know who pays us, and how, before you make a decision.

How quickly can we find a place?

It depends on the care needed, the budget, the location and which homes have an opening. Tell us your timeline when you contact us. A reported opening is not a reservation, so confirm it with the home before making plans.

We need to leave the hospital soon. Can you help?

Tell us the expected discharge date when you contact us. The hospital's discharge planner remains responsible for the medical plan. We can help you understand the options and prepare questions for the homes you consider.

Care and costs

What is the difference between an adult family home and assisted living?

An adult family home is a licensed house that cares for two to six adults, or up to eight with state approval. Assisted living facilities are generally larger communities for seven or more residents. Our types of care guide explains each setting.

Does Medicare pay for an adult family home or assisted living?

No. Medicare does not pay for long-term custodial care. It can cover a limited skilled nursing stay after a qualifying hospital stay. Our paying for care guide covers WA Cares, Medicaid, veterans benefits and insurance.

Why does availability sometimes say unknown?

A home's last report may be out of date or still need confirmation. A reported opening is not a reservation. Confirm the current details with the home before making arrangements.

Can I send health information through this website?

Please do not enter medical details on the public website. Use only the sharing process provided by your advisor when it has been enabled for your workspace.

Your portal

Which portal should I use?

Choose Family for a shared care workspace, Advisor for Acuity staff, Facility for home operators, or Referrer for referring professionals. Choosing a portal does not change your account's permissions.

Does creating an account give me access to a workspace?

An account lets you sign in. Your invitation or staff membership determines which workspaces and information you can access. If a workspace is missing, contact the person who invited you.
