How independent living is regulated
Continuing care retirement communities, which offer several levels of living and care on one campus, are not state-licensed. They must register with DSHS to call themselves registered, and registration does not mean the state has licensed or certified them.
If a community also has an assisted living or nursing section, that section is licensed separately.
Questions to plan ahead
- What happens if care needs increase?
- Is there assisted living or nursing care on the same campus, and is a place guaranteed?
- What are the entrance fees, and are any refundable?
